India’s longest Sea Bridge – Mumbai Trans harbour Link {MTHL}

Honouring to our late Prime Minister – Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee by naming Mumbai Tans Harbour Link {MTHL} as “Atal Setu”

History of "Atal Setu":

The Atal Setu Mumbai, also known as the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL), is a remarkable feat of engineering that has revolutionized transportation between Mumbai and its satellite city, Navi Mumbai (Nhava Sheva). This 21.8-kilometer-long (13.5-mile) 6-lane elevated highway bridge is the longest sea bridge in India and the world's 12th longest sea bridge, connecting the two cities in a way that was previously impossible. The MTHL has been a long time in the making, with the idea first being conceived in the 1970s. However, construction on the bridge did not begin until 2011, with a consortium of Larsen & Toubro and Hyundai Engineering & Construction being responsible for its construction. After years of hard work and dedication, the bridge was finally completed and inaugurated by “Prime Minister Narendra Modi” on January 28, 2023. Since its completion, the MTHL has had a significant impact on transportation between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. It has reduced travel time between the two cities from 2 hours to just 30 minutes, significantly improving access and connectivity. The bridge has also helped to Reduce traffic on the Eastern Express Highway and the Sion-Panvel Highway, which were previously the only routes between the two cities. This has made commuting much easier and more convenient for the people of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai.

Features of The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL):

The Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) project is a marvel of engineering that has transformed the connectivity between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. This ambitious project is a testament to as feature to India's growing infrastructure prowess and has been hailed as a game-changer for the region.

1. The MTHL project is a 22-kilometer-long bridge that connects Mumbai with Navi Mumbai, cutting down travel time significantly. The bridge is designed to withstand strong winds, high tides, and earthquakes, making it one of the safest and most reliable bridges in the world.

2. One of the key features of the MTHL is the use of Orthotropic Steel Decks (OSDs). The MTHL is the first bridge in India to use OSDs, which are lighter and stronger than traditional concrete decks. This allows for longer spans and a more aesthetic design, making the MTHL a true engineering marvel.

3. In addition to the OSDs, the MTHL is also connected to the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, the Eastern Express Highway, and the proposed Coastal Road. This provides seamless connectivity to various parts of Mumbai and Navi Mumbai, making it easier for people to travel and commute.

4. The MTHL has been constructed with sustainability in mind. The use of OSDs reduces the weight of the bridge, which in turn reduces the amount of fuel required to transport materials and reduces greenhouse gas emissions. This makes the MTHL an environmentally friendly infrastructure project that supports the government's efforts to reduce carbon emissions and combat climate change.

5. Finally, the MTHL offers stunning views of the Mumbai skyline and the Arabian Sea. It is a popular spot for tourists and locals alike, who can enjoy the scenic views while travelling on the bridge.

The MTHL project has become a symbol of India's growing infrastructure prowess and has set a benchmark for future infrastructure projects in the country. The government's focus on infrastructure development has been instrumental in driving economic growth and improving the quality of life for millions of people.

In conclusion, the Mumbai Trans Harbour Link project is a remarkable feat of engineering that has transformed connectivity between Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. Its successful completion is a testament to India's growing infrastructure prowess, and it has opened new opportunities for the region's economic growth and development.
